چکیده

We present a software system for the management of geographically distributed highperformance computers. It consists of three components: 1. The Computing Center Software (CCS) is a vendor-independent resource management software for local HPC systems. It controls the mapping and scheduling of interactive and batch jobs on massively parallel systems; 2. The Resource and Service Description (RSD) is used by CCS for specifying and mapping hardware and software components of (meta-)computing environments. It has a graphical user interface, a textual representation and an object-oriented API; 3. The Service Coordination Layer (SCL) co-ordinates the co-operative use of resources in autonomous computing sites. It negotiates between the applications’ requirements and the available system services. Copyright  1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Service Scheduling on Wide - Area Metacomputer Clusters

It is a significant problem to provide a robust and portable software environment that can link together clusters of workstations and other heterogeneous computers. There are particular difficulties when the computer clusters to be managed transcend administrative boundaries across wide-area networks. We review some of the technologies that have emerged recently for managing arbitrary computer ...

Federated grid clusters using service address routed optical networks

Clusters of computers have emerged as cost-effective parallel and/or distributed computing systems for computationally intensive tasks. Normally, clusters are composed of high performance computational nodes linked together by low-latency/high-bandwidth interconnection networks. With the advent of modern optical networking technologies, geographically distant clusters can be federated to yield ...

The Preliminary Design of Papyrus: A System for High Performance, Distributed Data Mining over Clusters, Meta-Clusters and Super-Clusters

Data mining is a problem for which cluster computing provides a competitive alternative to specialized high performance computers for mining large data sets. Distribued clusters provide a natural infrastructure for mining large distributed data sets. Distributed clusters can be connected by commodity networks to form what we call meta-clusters and by high performance networks to form what we ca...

An Atmospheric Sciences Workflow and Its Implementation with Web Services

Computational and data Grids couple geographically distributed resources such as high performance computers, workstations, clusters, and scientific instruments. Grid Workflows consist of a number of components, including: computational models, distributed files, scientific instruments and special hardware platforms. In this paper, we describe an interesting grid workflow in atmospheric sciences...
